Check Your Payroll Payment Authorisations

With the introduction of Payday Super from 1 July 2026, businesses are now required to pay superannuation on payday, with contributions required to reach employees’ super funds within seven business days.

We have recently identified situations where businesses have experienced difficulties processing super payments because the person authorised to approve the payment was unavailable, such as being on annual leave.

This isn’t necessarily a software issue — it can be a user authority and business setup issue.

Whether you use MYOB, Xero or another payroll system, we recommend reviewing who is authorised to approve your super payments and ensuring you have appropriate backup arrangements in place.

We recommend that businesses:

  • Have more than one person authorised to approve super payments, where appropriate.
  • Ensure authorised users have the required access and verification set up.
  • Have a backup person available when the usual payroll/finance person is away.
  • Review authorities when staff leave, change roles or take extended leave.
  • Don’t wait until payday to discover that the only authorised person is unavailable.

A quick check of your authorisation settings now could help prevent delays with your super payments later.
