Covid-19 financial support

Prior to the Cairns three day lockdown, many businesses in the region were struggling after a decline in visitor numbers caused by lockdowns in South East Queensland and other states. The Cairns lockdown, although hoped to be short, will undoubtedly increase the number of businesses impacted by COVID-19 lockdowns.

To help businesses through this difficult time we have detailed below some of the support available.  This will continue to be updated as new support programs are announced.

Queensland Business Support Grants

A $5,000 grant will be available to small and medium businesses across Queensland affected by the COVID-19 lockdown that commenced on Saturday 31 July 2021 and lockdowns in other states. All eligible businesses who apply for a grant during the 3 month application period will receive funding.

Applications for this grant will open in mid-August. To qualify for the grant, businesses will need to meet the following criteria:

  • you must have experienced at least a 30% reduction in turnover as a result of the lockdown.
  • you have a turnover of more than $75,000 per annum.
  • you have an annual payroll in Queensland of up to $10 million.
COVID-19 Disaster Payment – Queensland

This is a lump-sum payment for people who lost work and income due to a Queensland COVID-19 public health order. The type of payment available to you depends on if you receive an eligible Centrelink payment or not.  More information is available at the link below:

Bank support

Whilst no formal bank support policies have been announced, our experience is that banks have been supportive of clients seeking additional payment deferrals where COVID-19 lockdowns have temporarily affected businesses. If you believe you will struggle to make future bank payments, we recommend contacting your bank ASAP.

If you would like to discuss any of the above COVID-19 support available or require assistance navigating through the rest of this year, please do not hesitate to contact the Halpin Partners team on 07 4052 0800.
